Get started

A few steps.
Then let it be.

You’ll need your Roku remote and a computer on the same home Wi-Fi as your Roku.

Download Roku ZIP

This early-access build uses Roku developer mode. It isn’t listed in the Roku Store yet.

  1. Download the app

Save the SalaamScreen Roku ZIP to your computer. Keep it zipped.

  2. Enable developer mode on your Roku

On your remote, press this sequence:

    Home ×3→Up ×2→Right→Left→Right→Left→Right

Note the IP address shown on the TV. Enable the installer, review and accept Roku’s developer agreement if you agree, and create your own developer password. Let the Roku restart.

  3. Upload the ZIP to your Roku

On your computer, open http://YOUR-ROKU-IP in a browser using the address from step 2. Sign in with username rokudev and the password you just created. Choose Upload, select the ZIP, then choose Install.

Enter that password only in your Roku’s local installer. Roku allows one sideloaded app at a time; installing SalaamScreen replaces any existing sideloaded app.

  4. Choose SalaamScreen as your screensaver

On the Roku, open Settings → Theme → Screensavers and select SalaamScreen. Set your preferred wait time, then leave the TV idle. A remote button returns you to normal viewing.

If Backdrops takes over on your Roku TV, turn Backdrops off so your selected screensaver can appear.

  5. Connect your masjid

In SalaamScreen’s Roku screensaver menu, choose Change screensaver settings. Scan the QR code with your phone, or open TV setup and enter the code. Preview the published times, confirm your masjid and save. No masjid signup or Roku password is needed on the website.
